About Paço dos Duques de Bragança
Begun in the 1420s by Afonso, first Duke of Bragança and illegitimate son of King João I, the Paço dos Duques is unlike anything else in Portugal. Its builder had travelled northern Europe, and he raised a palace of steep roofs, a forest of tall brick chimneys and a great banquet hall — a Burgundian manor transplanted onto a granite hill in the Minho.
The Bragança family would go on to become Portugal's last royal house, and their first home still holds the collections of that rise: Flemish and Pastrana tapestries, medieval weapons and armour, Portuguese and Chinese porcelain, and period furniture arranged across two floors around a central courtyard.
It stands a few steps from Guimarães Castle and the little Romanesque church of São Miguel — the ground where, tradition says, Portugal itself was born. To walk the palace is to stand at the start of the story of a nation and an empire.

Where is the Paço dos Duques and how do I get in?
It's in the historic centre of Guimarães, next to Guimarães Castle (Rua Conde Dom Henrique). Book a timed slot with us, show the e-ticket on your phone at the entrance, and go straight in.
Are these skip-the-line tickets?
Yes. You choose a morning (10:00–14:00) or afternoon (14:00–18:00) entry window and arrive within it, bypassing the ticket-office queue. Entry is self-guided rather than a guided tour, so you explore at your own pace.
How much is admission and why do you charge more than the door price?
The palace charges a low public entry fee; our price includes that ticket plus our concierge service — securing your entry window, support in your language, your e-ticket by email and a refund guarantee if the site closes. You pay for the convenience, not just the ticket.
Do children need a ticket?
Children up to and including age 12 enter free when accompanied by an adult — you don't need to book a ticket for them; just bring proof of age. Ages 13–24 qualify for the reduced Youth rate with photo ID.
Can I visit Guimarães Castle and the Alberto Sampaio Museum too?
Yes — they're a two-minute walk away and make a perfect half-day in the birthplace of Portugal. We book entry to the palace only; tickets for the castle and the Alberto Sampaio Museum are sold separately at each site.
What if I need to change or cancel?
All sales are final except where the palace closes for reasons outside your control, in which case you receive a full refund. If your plans change, contact us as early as possible and we'll do what we can with the operator.
